VM är inställt

The following Statement has just been released by IBSF with regard to the Cancellation of the IBSF World Championship in Pakistan

IBSF WORLD SNOOKER CHAMPIONSHIP – 2005

The Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) has just announced that they have no choice but to postpone the World Snooker Championship to have been held in Karachi in November 2005.

In an email received this evening, Mr Ali Valika of the PBSA has cited the recent earthquake in Pakistan, and also the recent earth tremors in Karachi itself, as being the main reasons for their decision to postpone the event. Another reason given by the PBSA is that their Sponsors have diverted a major portion of their sponsorship budgets to the Pakistan President’s Earthquake relief fund.

The PBSA have also advised that they been contacted by their Ministry of Sports and the Ministry also suggested that the World Snooker Championship be postponed.

The IBSF regrets this unexpected postponement of this World Championship but has great sympathy for all the pe ople of Pakistan during this time of terrible sorrow and suffering of their people following the recent earthquake, after-shocks and tremors.

The IBSF Board will certainly have to consider all the ramifications of this cancellation of the World Snooker Championships at such short notice. Once all the information is to hand, the IBSF Board will advise the IBSF Member Countries of the plans for the future.
